Date: Tuesday, April 28 or a Rain Date of Tuesday, May 5
Time: 9:00 am - 11:00 am
Location: The field at Chesterton Park along 5th Street between Porter Ave. and Morgan Ave.
Details: Last year students enjoyed learning about flight, constructing water rockets and shooting them off in the park. We used water and air pressure (supplied by a bicycle pump) to shoot rockets made from plastic bottles into the air. We made a tool to help measure the height of the rockets and had a ton of fun. The students were anxious to have another water rocket launch again this year and proposed and voted on it at the school meeting. Each student who would like to participate will need two 1-liter plastic bottles that do not have any punctures or holes in them. We will also need cereal boxes or other similar boxes to make the nose cones and fins. We have been doing weekly experiments about air and flight and will continue to. Students will learn how to construct their rockets and can work on them at school and finish them up at home if needed. We will begin rocket construction the week of April 13, so please make sure your students bring in their plastic bottles by then.
Any student can participate in the Water Rocket Launch, even if they do not typically come to school on Tuesdays. Just meet us at the park! Parents are welcome to watch the launch as well!
